So EPIC wants to replace the current oil-for-food program with an oil-for-weapons program?

Brad DeLong

I think an oil for "equipments to rebuild a devastated economy" would be better You know that a country simply can´t live with food and medicines. I would like to remeber you that medicines are useless if you can´t purchase basic equipment to make diagnosis tests (radiographs, laboratory tests, biopsies, microbiological tests and much more), so it´s brutal cynicism to say that medicines and food are sufficient to avoid the massive rate of life losses. And there is also necessity to buy industrial machines, spare parts for vehicles, water treatment facilities, machines used to rebuild the infrastructure. Nazi German was much better treated after the WWII! And to say that Iraq people is being treated by this way is another piece of US hipocrisy. In is autobiography, General Colin Powell said that Mr. Hussein was the better alternative to Iraq and because this the US troops didn´t advance to Bagdah. And the US Army did nothing when the Iraq Army crushed the Shiites and Kurds after the war (based in non intervantion principles? but Mr. Bush called for a people´s rebellion against Saddam Hussein during the war). So there is no reason to punish Iraq people for USA´s choice. And Saddam Hussein was a good friend of USA during his war against Iran, right?
