Do the math (I haven't, but Dan Lazare did on my radio show the other 
night): the number of states that would lose representation by the 
abolition of the electoral college is greater than the number 
necessary to block a constitutional amendment. So barring an outbreak 
of enlightened selflessness, the electoral college is here to stay, 
just like that other abomination, the Senate.
