The simplest explanation is that those with the most to directly lose sweat the most to keep from losing it.
Losing $5,000 per year doesn't hurt as much is you are making $50,000 per year, as it does for sombody making $10,000.
Comments like 'Bush will generate a backlash' might not sound very good to those who will feel the brunt of the GOP first and foremost.
Comments like 'there is no significant difference between Bush and Gore', or 'Demopublicans', or 'Republicrats' might resonate badly in the ears of those who have been used as targets of Republican politics.
