But since you want me to be serious, certainly, if not Wojtek, there are some people who had direct experience with European socialism who would happen to think otherwise. But given all the ( indirect) evidence I have, I would say it was good that there was socialism in Europe, and probably in many ways better than before and after.

CB: Well, sure, all the indirect experience, the hearsay , is based on someone else's direct experience. Some direct experience is a necessary precondition for the indirect experience.But it is important to see that we rely on OTHERS immensely. Humans are social beings, and this is one of the facts that makes that phrase not empty.
