It is an interesting situation. All possible 'practical' solutions only reproduce the 'problem' in more acute form. There are one or two further possible positive things to do. There could be an embargo on arms sale to all entitiies in the region.

-But it could create even further trouble, since Israel has a well developed -military industry (Merkava tanks, Kfirs and Lavis combat planes, not to -mention those wonderful nuclear toys). Even if this was implemented (of -course, the USA has no intention to do this) it would only increase the -military edge Israel has over its foes. It would also start a weapons race -since all those Arab countries woould try to buy techonology from Russia -(which is in such a situation it can´t refuse those offers)

-Isn´t it? But multiethnic democracy by itself doesn´t solve all the troubles. -Even if this utopian solution is reached, there is still necessity to -deal with the intrinsic unequalities of capitalism, as we can learn with -the South African experience. The orthodox economic policy put into practice -by ANC failed clearly to reduce unequalities and unemployment among blacks, -so there is much more to be done....
