One reason that guns were not looked upon with favor was a fear that too
many people would prefer to hunt for the food rather than earned it
through wage labor. At the time, throughout Europe and the United
States, there was an obsessive antagonism to hunting, which was not seen
as recreation, but as an alternative to the market.
