Precisely. It is like 'christian love' or 'communism' - shibboleths of arguably the most bloodthristy bastards in written history. It demonstrates the role of religion, philosophy, and ideology as the opium of the people in western society - we worship what we have been deprived of.

Not surprisingly, individualism seems most popular among corporate types and IT workers - where teamwork and groupthink are most rampant.
