You are right, the conditions are different. But we've seen plenty of examples in the United States when the revolutionary fervor of the people was co-opted by reformists whose goals where tolerable by the rich and powerful.

As soon as you have a Green party with influence and a little power, you'll quickly get leaders who will abuse that power. If anything, the anarchist warnings about the Russian revolution were proven correct and should serve as an example to those who think they can shake up the system by electing a few "green" leaders.
