The poll, undertaken last weekend, shows that Labour has recovered some, but not all, of the ground lost during last month's political upheavals, while the Tories have fallen back following the public splits in the Shadow Cabinet over Ann Widdecombe's proposals for tough action against cannabis users.
Labour has jumped 8 points on the month to 45 per cent, after having fallen by 14 during September following the fuel protests. This compares with a rating of between 47 and 51 per cent earlier this year.
The Tories have fallen by three points to 32 per cent, the same as in the early summer, suggesting that party support is now on a plateau after rising above 30 per cent in the late spring.
