I haven't checked the figures lately, so this is memory. There were 200+
german divisions on the Eastern Front, 85 on the western (Italy &
France) front. And of course the casualty figures are different orders
of magnitude, simply not comparable. The Second Front was at least a
year late in providing any substantial relief for the Russians. If my
memory serves, that 205 divisions did not include the many divisions
held down by Partisans in the Balkans.
A figure I've never seen computed: the number of civilians killed by
US/RAF bombing vs. the total number of German military casualties in the
west. Hamburg was certainly a worse war crime than anything either
Milosevic or Hussein ever did.
