Edelman has a semi-popular book out called:

=================
A Universe of Consciousness: How Matter Becomes Imagination
by Gerald M. Edelman, Giulio Tononi
List Price: $27.50
Hardcover - 288 pages 1 edition (March 2000) Basic Books; ISBN: 0465013767
==============

which goes int this stuff. i've been reading it in the bookstore a
little bit on each visit and it was pretty good for a book of its
kind. Peter's convinced me to buy it now.
