WWF asks Ventura to referee a debate
Saturday, September 2, 2000
The World Wrestling Federation wants to tap Gov. Jesse Ventura's political prowess for a presidential candidates forum it is trying to organize, and the governor's spokesman says Ventura is willing to participate. The WWF hopes Ventura would moderate a discussion involving Republican George W. Bush and Democratic Vice President Al Gore, who have been asked to make pitches to the youth-dominated wrestling audience from the ring at a nationally televised event. Although the participation of the presidential contenders may be a long shot, said John Wodele, Ventura's spokesman, the pro wrestling group is "dead serious" and Ventura is open to the idea. He said Ventura's position is that "if the candidates agree, then I will agree." But he said Ventura wants third-party candidates to have the same opportunity to speak.
