Patrick Bond is Associate Professor at the University of Witwatersrand Graduate School of Public and Development Management in Johannesburg and an associate of the Alternative Information and Development Centre (http://www.aidc.org.za) During the 1990s, he played a central role in development debates within the ANC, township and civic movement and trade unions. Patrick was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, in 1961. He studied at Johns Hopkins University, and moved permanently to Southern Africa in 1989. He is the author of several books, including "Uneven Zimbabwe: Study of Finance, Development and Underdevelopment" (Africa World Press 1998) and "Cities of Gold, Townships of Coal: Essays on South Africaís New Urban Crisis" (Africa World Press 2000).
