David McReynolds

Open Letter to the LGBT Press

Those of us signing this statement share two things in common - we are part of the Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual/Transgender community and we know David McReynolds, the Socialist Party's candidate for President in the current election.

We have differences - some of us are members of the Socialist Party or some other socialist organization, some of us support Ralph Nader and the Greens, some of us will hold our noses and vote for Al Gore - and at least one of us is a member of the Libertarian Party.

David McReynolds, who was a co-worker with Bayard Rustin, close friend of Allen Ginsberg and Quentin Crisp, as well as Barbara Deming, and who came out as an open gay as long ago as 1969, has earned the right to coverage by the LGBT press. It is in the interest of all of us that the two major parties not assume that our votes are in their pockets. Fair coverage of alternative campaigns is in our own interest.
