An axiomatic system is a very specialized thing, involving a closed set of 
precisely defined axioms stated by using a handful of primitive undefined 
concepts and relations and proceeding through logical dedictions of a 
tightlly linked sort to necessary conclusions. Euclid' s Elements are the 
main example. This was considered the model of knowledge for millenia, and 
various figures tried to approximate it--Newton comes to mind.
