O.K. I'll make it as a prediction -- though probably it'll never be tested during my lifetime. A *third* party will never arise in the U.S. except under conditions analogous to the rise of the Republican Party (which followed the self-destruction of the Whig Party). No third party ever has established itself. Under the Constitution no third party ever will.
