The election for L.A. Mayor is next Tuesday, and while there will undoubtedly be a runoff of the top two, the most recent poll shows Antonio Villaraigosa in the lead with 23%, followed by James Hahn with 20%.

The is good news, Hahn is left of center, and Villaraigosa is a genuine progressive. Among other things, Villaraigosa is past President of the ACLU Southern California, former speaker of the State Assembly, has fought for low income bus riders, for a living wage, is strongly supported by progressive unions and the Sierra Club, NOW.

Imagine, a progressive Latino may well be the next mayor of Los Angeles. I hope so.
