Apologies for the broken English in the previous post.  It was written as
I was walking out the door, which is more an explanation than an excuse. 
I'll try again:

Wasn't Putin originally Berezovsky's boy?  And aren't oligarchs with
Kremlin connections use those ties to muscle out their competitors?  Even
though the Gusinsky affair was misreported in the US press, I read it
more as undue affinity for the oligarchs than unjustified animosity to
Putin.
