In fairness, the Federalists et al get quite a bit of
money from say Olin and co. to stage these events,
where I have yet to see a thoughtful presentation. As
President of my law school's National Lawyer's Guild
chapter, I see the Federalists' heavily subsidized
budget and activities as part and parcel of one
another. We do invite the right (genererally it's
"can't we all get along" liberalism which does the
most damage). We generally do plenty of the kinds of
things you'd like to see more of, but money and
half-assed liberal law profs play a very significant
role in circumscribing one's activities-but then the
difficulty is inspiring as far as I'm concerned and
makes a good lefty develop the kind of all-purpose
education that I for one admire.
