Cops and Laptops

<forwarded> The stuff you learn in college is amazing...

After doing a demo of my friend's SPL car (re: speaker cones?) in the parking lot of our university, we got a friendly visit from the cops. So, while the cop was looking and oogling at the car, I peeked inside his cruiser to do recon on his laptop. This is what I saw...

Wireless LAN (of course) Windows NT v4.00.1381

and, this is the meat and potatoes: Vision Mobile Messenger v1.06

Now, this was a pretty interesting program. It had the normal features a

cop proggie would need, like Gun Registration Lookup via Serial #, Info on people via SSN/Name/Address/etc, car information, text dispatch, etc. But it also had an html-based chat section on there, where the 5-0's can ham it up with each other. Also, it listed each officer that was on duty at the time (and who were logged on to the network), and their location (lan triangulation, maybe?) Now, being at the university I'm attending (and it being ~ 2am), there were only 8 or so cruisers on the list (with their full infos displayed by clicking their "nicks" in the chat). This could be a very handy toy to get a hold of, though, if one were to decide to do some not-so-legal things (being that you know where the LEOs are at all times, and whether they've been dispatched to your locale or not).

The cop also said something about the bike cops having a port of VMM for

their palm pilots... I wonder if it's true...

Any one else have any info?
