LAPD liable under RICO

In two major federal court rulings, one judge ruled that the Ramparts Divisions of the L.A. Police Dept. (the group most implicated in the grotesque abuses of police power here in L.A) was liable be prosecuted under RICO, the federal corrupt organization law. Then, another judge ruled that the *entire* LAPD could be prosecuted under RICO.

This is the first time ever a police department has fallen under RICO. The City of L.A. already has something like 200 million in lawsuits pending because of the false arrests, drugs planted, innocent people deliberately shot and imprisoned by Ramparts cops. These are not speculations, this is proven.

These RICO developments mean, unquestionably, more lawsuits, and probable prosecutions. The RICO suit was brought by Steven Yagman, a Venice lawyer who has relentlessly pursued LAPD for years. Think Bruce Cutler in personality and effectiveness in court, that's Yagman. On KPKF just now, Yagman was talking about going after City Council members and the Mayor because they knew much and did nothing.

L.A. may well have a progressive Latino as mayor in a few weeks, Antonio Villaraigosa, and with these RICO developments, things may get REAL interesting (if the lights stay on, that is....)
