You CAN'T do that with student loans. They don't defer. Someone very close to me went through this for years, they want their money and that is that. No terms. And this was with a lawyer helping her ( her father ). And when she had major bipolar episodes and was deemed unemployable and put on social security, they STILL wanted all the money. Until, finally, after months, they realized she really wasn't ever going to earn anything, they finally settled for a lump payment from her father.

Before her bipolar episodes, they were taking 40% of her very small paycheck. This was with a lawyer helping her.
