Who's "we"? MC Solaar is Senegalese-French. Les bandes in the Quartier du Nord are from Algerian, Morocco, Egypt, Francophone Africa, Germany has Turkish bands throwing down, Asian Americans are starting to mix koto and Korean drumbeats into bass lines.
I was just passing through Newark's Greyhound bus station on my way back from Ithaca and saw folks from at least ten different cultures, including this young kid from Russia. The proletariat is multinational, and hip hop is its music of resistance.
