The whole Austrian theatre group has been released from jail and deported from Italy on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Wednesday, 15 August, 2001, 11:10 GMT 12:10 UK Austrian performers freed in Genoa Members of a radical Austrian threatre group arrested at last month's G8 summit in Italy have been freed from jail. The 19-strong Publix Theatre group still face charges of associating with anarchists and could be jailed for 15 years. Police seized knives, black clothes, mobile phones and flagpoles from the group's vehicles. The actors insist they were props. An American student travelling with the actors, Susanna Thomas, was freed on Tuesday, and echoed allegations made by other freed protesters that they had been beaten and mistreated by Italian police during their arrest. "Some of us were severely beaten and others were physically and sexually threatened and harrassed," she said. She described the arrest period as "24 hours of hell".
