The _Tribune_ the next day featured a photograph of a black Chicago police officer. He filled the slot now filled at a much higher level of visibility by Powell.

Incidentally, the ease with which the authorities carried out this killing (decades later the City of Chicago paid some damages to Hampton's family -- big deal) shows again how much the u.s. ruling class does NOT need fascism. Bourgeois democracy, especially within a racist social order, serves all the purposes of fascism with none of its risks.
