This Friday, there was a somewhat interesting poll done in Yideot Aharonot's weekend magazine:

As with all polls this must be taken with a grain of salt. It says 500 people were polled and the polling was done by Mini Tsemach, who is the queen of polling in Israel.

Excuse any awkward translations on my part.

The margin of error is: +/- 2%

*How do you estimate the sense of security that the government gives too the citizens?

Just Enough: 40% Too Little: 58%

*In your opinion, how does the assasination policy influence the terrorism?

Lessen: 22% Increase: 45% No Influence: 31%

*Are you for the assasination policy of Israel?

For: 74% Against: 24%

Correct: 70% Incorrect: 28%

Trustworthy: 70% Not Trustworthy: 26%

Count: 64% Don't Count: 33%

*What grade do you give to Sharon according to the job he is doing as Prime Minister?

Good: 74% Not Good: 25%

Is there a need to assasinate Arafat?

Yes: 24% No: 75%

*Does Israel need to do actions which will bring about his replacement?

Yes: 53% No: 43%

-------------------------------

An interesting point is the dissonance between the fact that a majority of those polled felt that Israel's assasination policy either have no influence at all or actually lead to an increase in terrorist acts against Israel, however a large majority of Israelis are for the assasinations. Could this indicate that to the majority of people who are for the policy, the assasinations are not about security, but about revenge (though they may not even be aware of this in their conscious minds).

The other interesting point is that while a majority of those polled are against Israel assasinating Arafat, a majority are for Israel to directly or indirectly influenc his removal from power.
