Developmental psychologists have conducted a lot of longitudinal research about this. As well as you can demonstrate with nonexperimental research, harsh discipline strategies in parents tend to lead to negative outcomes in children (more behavior problems in kids, more aggression in kids, less empathy in kids, etc). Any developmental psych textbook will provide you with some specific refs.
