These "liberals" in the Iraqi Communist Party need more solidarity.

The statement issued by the Centre for Human Rights on 31/10/2001, which exposed details of the horrific crime committed by the Iraqi regime, under direct supervision of Qusay, the younger son of the dictator Saddam Hussein, in which 15 political prisoners were executed, Nazi-style, in a “poison gas chamber” on 10 August 2001, received a lot of attention from human rights organisations and the media.

In response to questions received after issuing this statement, a spokesman of the Centre for Human Rights has today revealed further information about the place where the crime was carried out.

The spokesman said that the location is a special prison which is directly controlled by the Presidential Office, where political prisoners and others with special sentences are held. This prison is situated in a farming area near the town of Falluja. A traveller coming from Baghdad would get there through a road branching off to the left from the main road leading to the town, about 3 kilometres before Falluja.

The spokesman has also pointed out that the prison is surrounded with a wall built with concrete blocks. Black iron gates lead to it. In the space along the left hand part of the prison area, there can be found the installation where the barbaric crime was committed. It resembles a shelter in external appearance.

The victims were placed inside a specially designed chamber and then a poisonous gas was released through vents. They were dead within 27 seconds. Their bodies were left there for one hour until the gas was extracted through a special vent.

This heinous crime was filmed on video and the film was shown to the criminal Qusay. The operation was closely supervised by members of his “Special Security” apparatus.

The Gas Chamber was installed last year and its operation began after approval by Qusay. It seems that this barbaric method was designed to facilitate mass physical liquidation of prisoners and detainees in a shorter time and with less effort. The dictatorial regime is continuing its notorious “Prison Cleanup” campaign which has so far claimed the lives of more than 3000 prisoners and detainees.

The Centre for Human Rights has exposed the names of the perpetrators of the crime, and has also given the names of some of the victims.
