Hitchens on Israel

On what moral basis does Hitchens criticize the founding of Israel? Isn't it another white settler movement that's had to clear away a native population in order to "spread aspects of modernity and enlightenment", as with the mass murder of Indians that occurred with the settlement of North America, highly praised by Hitchens during the Columbian anniversary in '92? Why can't Sharon say to those opposing Israeli expansionism that "it does happen to be the way that history is made, and to complain about it is as empty as complaint about climatic, geological or tectonic shift", as Hitchens said, referring to critics of the genocide of Native Americans? Sharon could further quote Hitchens to defenders of Palestinian rights to lecture them on "the absurdity of founding a claim of right or justice on the idea of the indigenous".
