I was forwarded this excerpt from an article on another listserv. The article was published in Le Monde. It claims Hamid Karzai once worked for the US Oil company UNOCOL. Apoligies if it has already been posted here. Makes you wonder - coincidence?

Après Kaboul et l'Inde où il a étudié le droit, il a parfait sa formation aux Etats-Unis où il fut un moment consultant de l'entreprise pétrolière américaine Unocal, quand celle-ci étudiait la construction d'un oléoduc en Afghanistan.
