      During the American Revolution when a lot of
the Founding Fathers were Enlightenment influenced
Deists.  This followed the First Great Awakening in
the early 1700s which was a period of fundamentalist
frenzy.  Historians of religion label the current phase
as the fourth round of this lunacy.
