An excerpt from Adolph Reed's intro to Race, Monthly Review Press's abridged version of Oliver Cromwell Cox's Caste, Class, and Race, reprinted in the Feburary MR:

"I suspect that the limitation of his strategic vision was reinforced by the combination of his teleological faith in capitalism's inevitable replacement by socialism and an apocalyptic ntion of revolution as the mechanism of millennial change. If the script is already written and a quantum leap is the sole necessary and sufficient condition for its realization, then there is little need to puzzle over how to get there from here. The only warrant is to preach the gospel and wait for enlightened adherents."
