Heh, I've never seen footnotes or cites in The Progressive so here are a few. This is a long established narrative frame in accts. of the rise of the New Right. Alan Crawford, "Thunder on the Right, " Vintage/Random House, around 1979. Berlet & Lyons, "Right-Wing Populism in America, " Guilford Press, 2000. Jerome Himmelstein, "To The Right, " U.C. Press. Sara Diamond's books. Michael Kazin volume on populism. The volume edited by Blumenthal and Tom Edsall. The Edsell couple's volume on race, rights and taxes. A Washington Post reporter whose name escapes me at the moment has a newish volume relating the careers of William Kristol, Clint Bolick and 2 other figures. Looks like a fine read. Was selling like mad in D.C. when it came out. Author, Nina Easton? A writer at Lingua Franca has a book on Goldwater and the Right coming out this year.
