Reminds me of a witty (but probably unfair) review of Phillipe Aries's book on the history of attitudes towards death. The reviewer said the book contrasted the passage to death in close communities, where people died in the home among familiar routines, with modern death, where people are cut off and alientated from all that is comforting, and summed up by saying One gets the impression from Aries that in the old days, it was fun to die.
