Cynicism, to quote Horkheimer, is the worst kind of conformity. I don't think I'm a cynic. If I thought the Democrats were the best we could do in U.S. politics, that the AFL-CIO shouldn't be criticized, that there was some hope to "reform" the IMF - that would be cynical. I'm trying to figure out how to get out of this box we're in. If I were a cynic, I'd have applied for a job at Goldman Sachs long ago.
