Gap widens in UK between rich and poor

Figures from the Office for National Statistics released today show that 
the average income in Britain grew by 12% between 1994/5 and 1999/0 before 
housing costs are taken into account.

But the rate of growth was 13% for the richest 10% and only 10% for the 
poorest tenth.
