The _core_ racism in the Rosenberg case was not anti-semitism (though obviously it 'helped' that they were Jewish) but what might be called "anti-peasantry." I remember the general atmosphere of the case fairly clearly, and the keynote of the whole was that those stupid russian peasants were not technically capable of making a nuclear weapon. This went along with endless clumsy jokes on how the russians kept falsely claiming that they had made this or that invention or scientific discovery.
