based on entries in Bush's private diaries obtained from an independent
counsel investigation.

Friedman's contemporaneous reporting based on Bush admin sources (via
Chomsky); official summaries of Congressional intelligence briefings (via
Newsday); and the excellent Robert Parry, then of Newsweek.
