Is there any particular reason why people don't pay much attention to
Marcuse anymore? He usually gets tossed in with a Horkheimer and Adorno
reference, sometimes even with Benjamin, but I've been studying EC lately
and kind of wondered what happened with it. In particular, I've been
looking at Habermas's critique, which doesn't seem to me to hold much water
at all; he seems to have taken on board all disadvantages without any of
the finer insights (like a nonlinguistic yet affective substratum a.k.a. a
biological/historical 'second nature').
Any literature refs would be appreciated (I'm already familiar with Jessica
Benjamin, Russell Jacoby, Joel Whitebook, Doug Kellner, Fred Alford, Morton
Schoolman, Paul Robinson, Richard Bernstein, Patricia Mills, Benhabib and a
few others) [and the usual FS historians, Jay, Wiggerhaus]...
one-dimension man,
