Yes, the Israelis have every right to the same protection and secure borders any native population has. It might be accomplished by (among other things) admitting to past mistakes and wrongs, apologizing with dignity, giving back all land which belonged to Palestinians, creating a new state or reforming the old one so as to include or at least take into account in a positive manner Palestinians in/by every aspect of government, amnesty for various resistance groups as soon as their leaders agree (afterwards treating further killings as "non-political" crimes), releasing political prisoners, and dropping the capitalistic mode of production for socialism (this might not last too long though, pity).
This is just a quasi-serious BS list I grew on the spot in my head without all the prior history of the region/conflict to draw upon, Brad, not the Declaration of Independence.
