it seems that lbo-talk uses majordomo as its list software and i could not discover through the help facility how to "suspend" one's subscription to the list, when i was faced with a situation similar to yours couple of weeks ago when i was away in utah. some list software (such as listproc, now called listerv, to mention a popular one - i believe pen-l uses listserv) provide this feature. with majordomo the only solution i had was to unsubscribe and resubscribe (i guess i could have had a mail filter automatically delete messages, as an alternative!).
sorry for the off-[list-]topic post, but i am hoping that more knowledgeable persons might have other suggestions, and that might be informative to most list members.
