Red Flag was the Chinese Communist Party's theoretical journal during the Mao era. During Deng Xiaoping's rule it changed it's name to "Seek Truth", from "Seek Truth from Facts", the slogan Deng used to try to overcome what he saw as the dogmatic "whaterverism" (from "whatever Mao said was correct") of some of the less creative residual Maoists. In fact, "Seek Truth" became the platform through which the Dengists' retreat from socialism was presented in Marxist dress throughout the 1980s and 90s (e.g. calls to "develop the productive forces"). Now even the Marxist dress has largely been abandoned.
