Minimum wage laws esp. as reinforced by the '96 welfare "reform", are subsidizing low wage employers/sectors of the economy like the food service industry, nursing home nurses aides, hotel room cleaning, etc.Hike the minimum up to $8-10, I betcha you won't see those Marriott hotels shut down. At $200 a night, what is a few more dollars? Cf. the David Bacon piece on organizing immigrant hotel workers.
