Michael, these are a few leads, more on the Ukraine and the 30's famine, but, they might steer you to to sources on WWII.

Though on WWII and the Ukranians and the Nazis see the book on the World Anti-Communist League by the Anderson brothers, and the So uth End Press book by Russ Bellant on the GOP and the ethnic outreach committees which were full of exiled Nazis from Eastern Europe and the fSU.

I suspect digging through book by the Menshevik (http://heiwww.unige.ch/staff/liebich.html "From The Other Shore: Russian Social Democracy After 1921, " by Andre Liebich, Harvard Univ. Press, 1997. Winner of the Fraenkel Prize in Contemporary History, Wiener Library, London. http://www.hup.harvard.edu/reviews/LIEFRO_R.html ) Kremlinologist, David J. Dallin http://www.google.com/search?q=David+J.+Dallin+&btnG=Google+Search and the ex-fellow traveler, Louis Fischer http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&safe=off&q=fellow+traveler%2C+Louis+F ischer+ on Soviet foreign policy, might get some leads on the Ukraine too.

At the library of the World Affairs Council in San Franscisco, I've seen a thick book by an Ukranian-Canadian on Ukranian politics, I'll give them a call Monday.

And, for the earlier period of the famine in the 30's and the neo-Stalinist polemicizing against the book by Robert Conquest and A. Cockburn and Jeff Coplon in the Village Voice around '85, see the below. The Grover Furr (of PLP) website http://csf.colorado.edu/forums/ipe/combined/wsn/2000/msg00755.html www.google.com/search?q=cache:W3B262hJdN0:www.chss.montclair.edu/english/fur r/vietnam.html+Grover+Furr+&hl=en&client=googlet is full of gems like this. Michael Pugliese, post #4 of he day, electricians tape being wound around the right hand! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ From: Michael Pugliese <debsian at p...> Date: Sun Mar 26, 2000 2:42 pm Subject: Famine-Genocide Deniers/Ludo Mertens, Grover Furr, Jeff Coplon, Alex Cockburn et.al.

Note to marxist list and dsanet comrades, on another list, a Belgian Stalinist recommended the PLP page with the Ludo Mertens, "Another View of Stalin, " (be careful, the hard drive in your computer will be put on trial and condemned along with it's owner as revisionist counter-revolutionaries for believing the truth. How, at this late date anyone believes that cuddly Uncle Joe was anything but, a mass murderer and despot, I don't know. The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Disorders have a category for Stalinist Delusions, Advanced Dissociation?

Michael Pugliese, running dog, woof woof! P.S. Alex Cockburn in the mid-80's in The Nation peddled this line about Robert Conquest and the Ukranian Nazi sources, to claim an absurdly low # of deaths in the GULAG camps. Thank gawd there were pgs. of letters to counter Alex.

Famine-Genocide Deniers

Introduction On the Internet, there exists Famine-Genocide Deniers Web Pages. It appears the goal of these Famine-Genocide Deniers Web Pages is to downplay and minimize the significance of this tragic event in Ukrainian History. They also glorify Joseph Stalin as a hero of the people. These pages also state how Joseph Stalin's reputation is allegedly malligned by anti-communist Ukrainians who allegedly have pro-Nazi leanings. The purpose of this page is to expose people to this re-writing of Ukrainian History. Please explore these series of pages and judge for yourselves. Webmaster InfoUkes Inc.

Links to Famine-Genocide Deniers Pages Grover Furr's Politics and Social Issues Page This series of pages located at Montclair University and maintained by English Professor Grover Furr. These pages include links to a Communist site that refers to the Ukrainian Famine as a Hoax that was perpetrated by pro-Nazi Ukrainians. There are articles on Stalin and Anti-Communists. Grover Furr states: "The `Stalin Question' is one of the most vital issues of our time, I think, because stories about the `horrors of Stalinism' are used to demoralize millions of people who are otherwise fed up with capitalist exploitation and are looking for an alternative. The `anti-Stalinists' basically tell us there is no alternative! So serious research on the USSR during the period of Stalin's leadership is vital in helping us understand what the Bolsheviks did that was right, and what they did was wrong, led away from communism and egalitarism, and what we must learn from their heroic experiences" This series of pages also includes an article by Jeff Coplon in the Village Voice (New York City) that tries to minimize the significance of the Soviet instigated Artificial Famine of 1932-33 in Ukraine. It also attacks the Ukrainian Canadian Research and Documentation Centre's Documentary "Harvest of Despair".

Progressive Labor Party WWW Home Page This series of pages belongs to the Progressive Labor Party which by entering their Home Page it becomes apparent that this is a Neo-Communist site. This site takes the position that Soviet instigated artificial famine of 1932-33 in Ukraine was a hoax. The site contains a six-part article published during the course of 1987 in Challenge-Desafio, newspaper of the Progressive Labor Party. This article attacks the Ukrainian Canadian Research and Documentation Centre's Documentary "Harvest of Despair" and states: "This film is a fraud. This essay will show that it uses lies, misleading film, and Nazi collaborators, to attack Stalin, the Soviet Union, and the whole idea of communism, while promoting nationalism and fascism." There are other articles on ths site that glorify Stalin and attack documentaries and literature that approach Stalin's life from an anti-communist viewpoint.

Progressive Electronic Library This is another series of pages related to the Progressive Labor Party that are attempting to rehabilitate Stalin's reputation from a brutal oppressive murdering despot into an enlightened misunderstood leader of the Soviet Union. This particular site holds the pages generated by Professor John Plaice of Laval University in Quebec, Canada. It is based on the book "Another view of Stalin" written by Ludo Martens. One of the areas tackled by these series of pages is the "myth" of the "Collectivization and the `Ukrainian Holocaust'". It essentially builds upon the works of Douglas Tottle, "Fraud, Famine and Fascism: The Ukrainian Genocide Myth from Hitler to Harvard" (Toronto: Progress Books, 1987). The following pages are directly related to the continuing attacks of the Progressive Labor Party on the validity of the Soviet instigated famine on the ethnographic territories of Ukrainians in the former Soviet Union.
