On McReynolds and Palestine

This thread is beyond belief. One could not dream up such hallucinations if you tried. It is almost as if some of us ingested a little too much acid in the '60s, and are now having a flashback.

David McReynolds is about as consistent a supporter of the Palestinians as anyone I have run across on the Internet. As a matter of fact, in my own view, his position lacks nuance and balance in the way in which it supports one side -- the Palestinians -- in a god awful mess in which there is more than enough right and wrong on all sides to go around.

It seems that he made himself the object of this bizarre attack because he had the gall to suggest that the Palestinians have made some significant errors in some of the tactics they have used in their struggle. In other words, for some of on this list, anything less than total, uncritical, unthinking and unswerving support for whatever any Palestinian does in the name of the struggle is to be condemned. The only thing one can say about such a view is that it won't tax the brain very hard.

Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never has, and it never will. If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet deprecate agitation are men who want crops without plowing the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its waters. -- Frederick Douglass --
