For what it's worth, I like French pastries, though I've never been to France, so, sadly, I've never had the pleasure of tasting the real things.

Moreover, France used to make great movies. Robert Bresson, for instance.

Last but not least, France is said to treat its intellectuals very well -- a mark of civilization worth preserving in my opinion. In contrast, in the USA, intellectuals are often sheepish about being intellectuals, breeding false modesty that is often more obnoxious than lack of modesty.
