The David McReynolds initiated exchanges on Cuba (on asdnet, a DSA list, I'm sending this to some other lists too), particularly Bill Dixon's recent post, made me want to find relevent material that critiques Communism from the left. (Though anyone who knows me has likely seen me peruse Commentary, National Review, Chtronicles or Modern Age (an acedemic Old Right quarterly in the Russell Kirk mold, an ex-contributor to Dissent, Samuel Hux, has contributed recently). This short book by French ultra-leftist, Richard Gombin, was published by Penguin in an English translation in the late 70's, now very much out of print, so I was glad find it on the web right now. Reviews the council communists, the Socialism or Barbarism group, "left communists" and others. Also see, another out of print book (written before he turned pomo) by Mark Poster, esp. chapter five, from his book, "Existential Marxism In Postwar France." http://www.hnet.uci.edu/mposter/EM/
