I know this was forwarded, but if the guy who wrote this were on this list, here's what I'd say:

The poor guy. The mayor only says crap like that because he's been painted into a corner by the media who ask the question in the first place: what is wrong with you personally and your town that you clearly have intimate control over that you could allow this to happen?

So of course he says something like that.

You'd say it too.

What else can he say (why is he being asked in the first place?)?

"Well, we here in Santee are a bunch of white crazies; I'm sure you can understand why this happened here. We're just the kind of place where this kind of thing happens. We've lost our moral fiber and our parents are some of the worst in the nation. Hell, I bet we've got at least three other little white crazy boys ready to pop as we're standing here yaking. Wouldn't surprise me one bit, yessir."

Sheesh.
