Teachers, I think, often have mixed feelings about students.  I think 
similar mixed feelings are common among those who are in service 
industries, i.e., those who directly interact with "customers." 
Students should not be treated as if they were "customers," but in 
the current environment they are (at least by the administration), 
and a good number of them behave as if they were.
