A venerable US tradition. The American Revolution was in part a big tax revolt. And we had very low taxes in comparative perspective even then. Perhaps the problem was we started out with virtually no taxes and somehow came to think that was normal. Because we act as if we still associate the imposition of taxes with distant nonrepresentative government.
